How big should a pendant lamp be?
April 29, 2026 · Cove and Cord

One of the questions we get most is how big a pendant lamp should actually be. It is easy to get wrong both ways. Too small and it gets lost, too big and it takes over the room. Here is how we think about it.
The quick rule
For a pendant over a table, aim for about half to two thirds the width of the table. A 120cm dining table sits nicely under a 60 to 80cm pendant. Over a kitchen island, go by the island, not the whole room.

How high to hang it
Over a dining table, leave around 75 to 90cm of clear space between the bottom of the lamp and the table top. Low enough to feel deliberate, high enough that nobody bumps it or loses the person across the table. In a hallway or an open room with nothing under it, hang it so the bottom sits at least 210cm off the floor.
Our sizes, and what they suit
| Size | Works well for |
|---|---|
| 40cm | Entryways and hallways, a bedside, a reading nook, a small two person table |
| 60cm | A kitchen island, a four person dining table, a quiet statement in a medium room |
| 80cm | A large dining table, an open plan room, a high ceiling that needs filling |
Every piece is made to order, so if your room sits between two sizes we can carve it to the exact diameter you need. Tell us the table or the space and we will help you land on the right one.
